Kangalini Sufia’ has been hospitalised on Tuesday. But the report came out early today.
The folk singer was born at Ramdia village in greater Faridpur, to Khokon and Tulu Halder. Coming from an improvised Hindu family, she converted to Islam and took the name Sufia Khatun three years after the Liberation War.
Popular folk singer Kangalini Sufia was admitted to Enam Hospital in Savar on Tuesday, after she suffered a stroke.
Yesterday, Enam Hospital operation room in-charge Nasiruddin told journalists : “She is out of danger now, but she was brought to the hospital on Tuesday noon as she suffered a stroke.”

Kangalini Sufia began singing at village functions at the age of 14-15, and drew significant praise. Her popular numbers include “Buri Hoilam Tor Karone,” “Konba Pothey Nitaiganj Jai,” “Amra Nari Koto Koshto Kori,” “E Boro Ajab Kudrati” and many more. She has received many awards for her contributions to folk music.
Mustafa Monwar, the former DG of Shilpakala Academy, nicknamed her “Kangalini Sufia” and she became famous across the country under this name.
