“Films like Udta Punjab are crucial for the betterment of society,” says Bollywood beauty Kareena Kapoor, who plays the role of a doctor in the film who talks about the dangers of drug abuse.

Directed by Abhishek Dubey, Udta Panjab is currently fighting a battle against the Indian censor board, which has raised several objections over the use of various words and language in the film.

It has ordered to chop off 89% of the film and the word “Punjab” from the title. The producer of the film took to the court to appeal against the decision. The court is scheduled to deliver its verdict today, however, in the hearing, the judges expressed discontent over the idea of altering the film.

Recently, Kareena expressed that she feels that stars like herself should work in such films in order to raise awareness.

She said: “I feel that if we do not do such films, people will never get to know about the dangers of drugs.”

“I have worked in many pivotal roles in many films in the past. But I chose this special role because the film portrays an important message which needs to be disseminated across the society.”

Regarding the controversy surrounding the film, she said: “I have complete faith on the film and the director. The film will surely succeed. Many popular stars have acted in the film who have strong fanbase.”

The film is scheduled to be released on June 17.
