Keep new enterprises out of tax net for 3 yrs: DCCI

Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) on Saturday urged the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to keep new entrepreneurs and their businesses out of tax net for the first three years for their hassle-free growth and helping the economy in the future.The leading chamber thinks if the government accepts the proposal it will encourage new entrepreneurs and help create more employments.
The DCCI board of directors, led by its President M Sabur Khan, placed a set of proposals, including that new one, during a meeting with NBR chairman M Ghulam Hossain at his office.
The chamber also urged the NBR chairman to increase the tax-free income ceiling for individuals to Tk 3 lakh from the existing 2 lakh.
It proposed fixing tax-free income ceiling for senior citizens and women taxpayers at Tk 3.5 lakh which is now Tk 2.25 lakh. The tax-free income ceiling for the physically-challenged people should be Tk 3.75 lakh instead of 2.75 lakh.
While putting forward the DCCI proposals, its president said the corporate tax rate of the listed companies should be reduced and re-fixed at 15 percent which is now 27.5 percent. UNB
