Khaleda summoned in son late Koko’s loan default case

A Dhaka court on Sunday summoned BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, late Arafat Rahman Koko’s wife and his two minor daughters to appear to the court in the case filed for the default loan of Dandy Dying Limited on April 12.
Judge-in-Charge Ruksana Parvin Happy of Dhaka’s Money Loan Court-1 (Artha Rin Adalat-1) passed the order in the afternoon in response to petition filed by Sonali Bank lawyer Zahangir Hossain. The court earlier fixed April 12 for submission of an order of the High Court in default the issue will be framed on the day.On March 16, the court made BNP Begum Khaleda Zia along with Koko’s wife Sharmila Rahman and her daughters Jahiya Rahman and Jafiya Rahman defendants in the case filed against the directors of Dandy Dyeing Limited for defaulting a loan of Tk45.49 crore.
Following Koko’s death in Malaysia on January 24, Sonali Bank’s Senior Executive Officer Nazrul Islam filed the petition to the court on March 8 as per order 22 and rule 4 of Code of Civil Procedure (CPC).
The other defendants in the case are Dandy Dyeing Limited’s directors Tareque Rahman, Khaleda Zia’s elder son, Giasuddin Al Mamun and his wife Shahina Begum, late Sayeed Iskander’s wife Nasrin Iskander, her sons Shams Iskander and Shafin Iskander, and daughter Sumaiya Iskander, Gazi Galib Abdus Sattar, Shamsun Nahar and Masud Hassan.
According to the case statement, the defendants, on February 24, 1993, applied for a loan of Tk 13.14 to Sonali Bank on behalf of Dandy Dyeing Limited. On May 9 of the same year, the bank sanctioned the loan.
Later, on October 16, 2001, the governing body of the bank waived the interest of the loan interests following an application of the defendants, and later the loan was also rescheduled.
On October 2, 2012, Sonali Bank filed the case with the court as the defendants failed to repay the loan, though the bank issued a final notice on February 28, 2010 for payment of the loan.
Koko who was arrested during the last military-backed caretaker government rule and went abroad in 2008 for medical treatment never came back alive. After his sudden death in January his body was brought to Dhaka and buried at Banani graveyard. – Court Correspondent
