Khaleda unable to eat properly: Fakhrul

Dhaka, Mar 19 (UNB) – BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday alleged that their chairperson Khaleda Zia neither can eat anything properly nor keep her head straight as her health condition has seriously deteriorated.

“She vomited today before coming here (to the court). She now can’t eat anything. She was not given any treatment,” he told reporters after his conversation with Khaleda in a makeshift court inside Old Dhaka Central Jail.

“She told me she’s very sick and she’s not given any treatment. Her condition has badly deteriorated. But no doctor came to visit her yet. Her blood sample was not collected for tests,” the BNP leader added.

He said their party wants the government to immediately ensure treatment and medical tests of Khaleda by especialized physicians. “She can’t hold her head straight as it is collapsing. She’s enduing serious pains in her legs, knees and other parts of body.”

About Khaleda’s unwillingness about going to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for treatment, Fakhrul said their chairperson said she does not receive proper treatment there.

He said they urged the government to take her to a specialized private hospital, but the government has so far not taken any step in this regard.

The BNP said the government can send Khaleda’s medical board’s doctor concerned to jail for providing her with treatment and conducting her blood and other tests.

Khaleda was brought to the court around 12:40pm in a wheelchair to resume the hearing on Niko graft case.

Fakhrul sat in a chair beside Khaleda and was seen talking to her during the hearing of the case that continued for around 40 minutes.
