Khilkhet bomb attack: 5 JMB members get 12 yrs in jail

Dhaka, Sep 22 (UNB) – A court here on Sunday sentenced five members of Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to 12 years imprisonment each in a case filed over the 2005 bomb attack in city’s Khilkhet.

The convicts are – Abdullah Al Suhail, Habibur Rahman Habib, Md Musa alias Mustafizur Rahman alias Samad alias Mintu, Md Abdur Rahman Masud, and Md Nurul Islam alias Ujjal alias Jubayer.

Habib and Samad are on the run.

Special Tribunal-2 Judge Md Al Mamun also fined each of them Tk 30,000. They will have to spend six more months in jail if they fail to pay the fine.

According to case statement, the convicts were behind a bomb blast near Khilkhet overbridge in front of the Rajuk market on August 17, 2005.

Assistant Sub-Inspector of Khilkhet Police Station Md Kawsar Alam filed the case after the attack and submitted charge sheet on November 2 the same year.

Prosecution lawyer Md Sahabuddin said JMB leader Ataur Rahman Sani was also accused in the case but his name was dropped after he was hanged in a murder case.
