Kohli, Dhoni propel India to 268

Dhaka- Despite losing five wickets in 180 runs, India put up a challenging total of 268 for seven wickets at Manchester on Thursday against West Indies relying two fifties of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni.

Indian captain Kohli won the toss and opted to bat first. India lost the first wicket in just 29 runs. Rohit Sharma was the first man to get dismissed by Kemar Roach who is playing just his second match in the World Cup.

In the second wicket stand, Lokesh Rahul and Kohli added 69 runs which helped India ensure a solid start to their innings.

However, Rahul fell for 48 while playing Jason Holder. Lokesh tried to drive forward but missed the line of the ball. He just found his stumps shattered by an excellent delivery off Holder.

Vijay Shankar and Kedar Jadhav fell in quick succession respectively for 14 and 7. Both of them fell prey to Roach, the right-arm medium pacer returned the figures of 3 for 36 in 10 overs.

Before falling as the fifth batsman of India, Kohli struck a hard-fought 72 off 82 with eight fours. He was also removed by Holder.

Along the process, Kohli completed 20,000 runs in international cricket as the fastest cricketer. He is now just third Indian batsman after Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid to touch the fate.

After losing half of the wickets in just 180, India were truly poor in the middle. But a 70-run stand by Dhoni and Hardik Pandya propelled India to a challenging total of 268 for 7 in 50 overs.

Pandya struck 46 off 38 while Dhoni remained unbeaten for 56 off 61 with three fours and two sixes.
