Late winter thunder-hail storm turns city weather pleasant

Dhaka – A 10-minute long nor’wester accompanied by hailstorm and heavy rainfall swept over the capital on Wednesday.
Met office sources said the storm lashed several places in the capital and its surrounding areas at about 11:50am.
Hit by the storm, the main gate of the Supreme Court Bar Council collapsed.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfalls were reported from several places of the country from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning.
Met office recorded 61 millimetres of rainfall in Chittagong while 42mm rainfall occurred in Sitakundu, 14mm in Srimangal, 30mm in Feni, 17mm in Comilla, 47mm in Madaripur, 23mm in Khulna and 70mm rainfall in Satkhira until 6am.
The Met office also hoisted warning signal-2 in the inland river ports of Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla and Chittagong while signal-1 was hoisted in the river ports of Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogra, Mymensingh and Sylhet.
Rain or thunder shower accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi division and weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, the sources added.
A number of streets in the city went under rainwater following the storm. The rain and hailstorm apprecaibly brought down the night temperature that was building up for the last few days as the sky remained overcast with clouds trapping the heat. People have thus been reminded, winter is to be over yet.
