Dhaka – Minister of Foreign Affairs Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali on monday praised Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS)’s role for aiding Rohingya refugees in the country.Speaking on the occasion of the closing ceremony of the two day long Partnership Meeting of the BDRCS, Mahmood Ali said, “The Red Crescent Society in Bangladesh has extended its hand in providing humanitarian aid to one of the most oppressed people of the world.”
The Foreign Minister said that BDRCS has always been playing an active role in providing help and support to the vulnerable and oppressed communities of Bangladesh. He hoped that the society will keep doing so in the future.
About the two day long partnership meeting, Mazharul Haq, Secretary General of BDRCS said, the overall objective of this meeting is to extend the horizon of partnership and mutual cooperation among diverse sectors and actors towards making the most vulnerable community resilient.
“BDRCS targets to reach at least 10 million people through various programs. And also 11 million coastal people of Bangladesh who are in most vulnerable condition will be brought under various BDRCS programs so that their resilience can be strengthened.”
He informed that as per the new strategic plan 2017-2020, BDRCS will be needed CHF 61 million (USD 62 million) to carry out its different disaster management and aid program in Bangladesh. Out of this, 45% will be provided from BDRCS’s own fund over the next four years.
Hafiz Ahmed Mazumdar, Chairman of BDRCS and Advocate Tauhidur Rahman, Tresearur of BDRCS also spoke on the occasion.
Representative from International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), 14 national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies namely American, British, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Bahrain, Sweden, Myanmar, South Korea, Turkey, Iran and Italy and representatives from different ministries of Bangladesh Government, Banks and Corporate Organizations, UN and NGOs/INGOs were participating in the meeting. – Staff Reporter
