Martyred Intellectuals’ Day Sunday

“Martyred Intellectuals Day” will be observed on Sunday. This day in 1971, on the eve of the country’s independence the occupation army in collusion with their quislings the para-military force, Al-Badr, picked up and killed the cream of Bangladesh’s intelligentsia.
President Md Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in separate messages paid respect to the martyred intellectuals and recalled their great contribution to the development of national consciousness.The national flag will fly at half-mast and black flags will be hoisted atop all national institutions.
Elaborate programs have been taken up to observe the Day.
In the morning at 5 minutes past 8 in the morning the president will place wreaths at the Martyred Intellectuals’ Monument at Rayer Bazaar. The president will be followed by the prime minister who will place wreaths at 10 minutes past 8.
Later, the minister for liberation war affairs’ along with members of the martyred families and freedom fighters will place wreaths at the Monument at 9 am.
They will be followed by different socio-political organizations and people from all walks of life. – BSS
