Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken up programme to cultivate Irri-Boro paddy in three upazilas of the district during the current season.
The DAE office sources said under the programme a total of 41,501 hectares of land would be brought under Irri-Boro cultivation with the production target of 1,72, 662 tonnes of paddy.
Of the total, some 18,876 hectares would be brought under Sadar upazila, 6,770 hectares in Lohagora upazila and 15,745 hectares under the cultivation in Kalia upazila of the district.
As part of the programme, farmers have already setup seedbeds spreading improved quality Irri-Boro seeds, the sources said.
Meanwhile, crop specialists and field-level officials of the DAE are providing their field-level services to the cultivators following directives of the government.
Deputy Director (DD) of DAE Chabi Hari Das said the concerned officials have also started visiting rural areas of the district to give knowledge about the latest methods of Irri-Boro cultivation to the cultivators for getting best yielding rate by reducing production costs.
He also said that different state-run commercial banks including Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) have disbursed agri-loan to the farmers for making the programme success. –BSS, Narail
