MD to decide on Biman’s GSA

Kevin Steele, Managing Director and CEO, said he would now be the final decision maker on all General Sales Agent (GSA) matters because of the many rumors, allegations and attempts to exert influence. He will choose the GSA according to the government and legal guidelines on RFPs for GSAs, as well as length of contract, and signed agreements.
Newly appointed CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Kevin made the comment in a statement on Thursday sent by Biman public relations department.
In the statement, he said he has joined Biman, to help them become a truly world class airline, for all Bangladeshis to be proud of. That means that he will choose the GSA most suited to deliver the best results for Biman, nothing else matters.
He added: “I would not normally comment on the subject of GSAs, but as there have been so many incorrect and occasionally slanderous comments made in the press, I would like to pass comment.”
He said, in virtually every other airline in the world, GSAs are dealt with at the General Manager level, not at the Director or even MD level. Kevin also said, “However, because of the many rumours, allegations and attempts to exert influence, I will now be the final decision maker on all GSA matters.”
“We will follow all Government and legal guidelines on RFPs for GSAs, as well as length of contract, and signed agreements. In addition, we will carefully document why each GSA was chosen or rejected, and hold these on file for scrutiny by any and all authorised persons,” he said.
He further said, “I have previously worked in almost all countries that
Biman flies to, and many that it does not, so I am familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of most of the GSA applicants, and therefore in the best position to make the decision.” UNB
