BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia at a meeting with visiting Australian first assistant secretary Paul Robilliard reiterated that a meaningful dialogue is needed to resolve the ongoing political crisis.
“Khaleda Zia has underscored the need for a meaningful dialogue for holding a free, fair and credible election in a bid to overcome the current political stalemate,” BNP vice chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury told reporters after the meeting. Mobin said the Austrian minister also supported the BNP chief’s view. Besides, various issues relating to Bangladesh’s latest political situation and the matters of bilateral interest were also discussed at the meeting, he added. Paul Robilliard, first assistant secretary of Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, had been at the BNP chief’s Gulshan residence around 4pm and held the nearly 45-minute meeting. AL legislators asks BNP for dialogue methodology on 11th JS polls
Ruling party lawmakers on Tuesday called upon its main political rival BNP to come forward for dialogue to discuss the methodology of the 11th Parliament elections.
They made the call while speaking in Parliament on thanks-giving motion on the address of the President.
The ruling party leaders made is clear that no election would be held in the country before ending the tenure of the present government after five years.
“I would request the BNP leadership to come forward with dialogue for the 11th parliamentary polls and to shun threats for movement,” said Vice Principal Abdus Shahid.
Ruling party MP Afsarul Amin said, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is now lamenting for boycotting the January 5 general elections.
Yusuf Abdullah Harun said no political party has been won in the last elections rather the terrorists, militants and anti-liberation forces have been defeated.
Jatiya Party presidium Kazi Firoz Rashid said they have played a historical role to protect the nation from a civil war.
He rejected the BNP demand to hold a fresh election saying that they took part in the polls for five years.
The JP leader said the Muslim League has been abolished as it did not support to the movement of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
