The medical admission seekers warned the government that they would block the important roads of the capital and elsewhere in the country on September 27 if their demands are not met before the time.
They said they have submitted a memorandum to the prime minister and the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) pressing their demand for the cancellation of the result and arrangement for new exams.
The applicants yesterday observed sit-in programme at Shahbagh area in the capital to press home their demand.
Hasibul Hossain, Convener of Student Guardian Oikya Parishad told The Independent that they would again gather at the Central Shaheed Minar on Wednesday and collect mass signature seeking solidarity with their demands.“We would collect mass signature tomorrow (Wednesday) and submit it to prime minister and DGHS. If our demands are not met, we would block the important roads in the capital and elsewhere in the country,” he added.
The agitated students also demanded for the resignation of the health minister Mohammad Nasim for holding the medical test despite the leakage of question paper and said they would continue their movement till their demands are realised.
As per the previously announced programme, the admission seekers were scheduled to hold human chain in front of the press club but they said, police dispersed them so they take position at the Central Shaheed Minar and later they gathered at Shabagh and blockaded the road for some time, creating traffic jam.
Meanwhile, some 101 prominent medical teachers and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), in separate statements condemned the incident of question paper leakage and demanded for the arrangement of re-examination of the admission test for the applicants.
Expressing deep concern over the leak, the teachers said the medical education and health services of the country are now at danger due to some ‘dishonest persons.’
They said that the incident of question papers of the medical test was published in the media and spread on the social media before the night of exam date and there were similarities with the main questions.
Even the arrest of some persons by the law enforcers for the alleged involvement in question paper leak proves that the questions were leaked but the authorities arranged exams with the same questions and published the result, which is a matter of concern, they said.
The doctors in a statement signed by Dr SM Rafiqul Islam Bacchu, former central member of Bangladesh Medical Association said the dream of the poor, talented and eligible students to be doctors nipped in the bud for such incident.
The embezzlement of crores of money by leaking question papers is constraining the path for medical profession for the eligible, talented and poor students, they said.
They said the medical education will be destroyed if ineligible students are admitted in exchange of money.
They alleged that a vested quarter is involved in the destruction of medical education by such activities like question paper leakage.
They said they condemn such mean act of leak of question papers and demanded for the cancellation of the recently published results to pave the path for the meritorious students to be physicians.
Chhatra Dal acting president Mamunur Rashid and general secretary Akramul Hasan in the statement alleged that the leaking of question papers from primary education to higher level has become the tool of making quick money by the ruling party people and the government is directly sponsoring it.
“When the students, guardians, media and civil societies are telling about the question paper leak, the government is not paying heed to it. It proves its support to such incident. The government is trying to ligalise the controversial admission test to save its people,” they added. – Staff Reporter
