Mini Ranji Trophy: BCB XI settle for draw against Vidarbha CA

Dhaka – Touring Bangladesh Cricket Board XI played to a draw against Vidarbha Cricket Association in their first four-day match of the ongoing Dr (Capt) K Thimmappaiah Memorial Cricket Tournament in India, also known as Mini Ranji Trophy, on the 4th and final day on Saturday despite two centuries by Mominul Haque and Nazmul Hossain Shanto and an eight-wicket haul by spinner Taijul Islam.

Resuming the 2nd innings with overnight score of 42 for 1 in 19 overs, the BCB XI were all out for 175 in 62 overs giving a tough winning target of 323 runs for Vidarbha CA on the last day.

Saif Hasan made Bangladesh’s highest 47 runs off 122 balls hitting eight fours and one six. Atharva Deshpande grabbed four Bangladesh wickets for 47 runs while Aditya bagged three for 37 runs.

Vidarbha CA, which scored 353 runs in the first innings, opened the 2nd innings on Saturday afternoon and scored 38 for 1 in 14 overs when the bails were drawn for the 4th and final day to settle for a draw.

Earlier in the first innings, the BCB XI posted 500 for 7 (declared) featuring two centuries by Mominul Haque (169) and Nazmul Hossain Shanto (118).

Bangladesh left arm spinner Taijul Islam grabbed eight wickets conceding 89 runs to restrict Vidarbha CA to 353 all out.

The BCB XI will face Dr DY Patil Cricket Academy team in their next game beginning on July 16.

A total of 16 teams, divided by four zones, are taking part in the tournament.

Earlier, BCB XI put in Group B with KSCA Secretary’s XI, Vidarbha Cricket Association and Dr DY Patil Cricket Academy.
