Miraz expects competitive cricket to begin very soon

DHAKA —All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz expected the competitive cricket to return to the ground very soon, stating that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is very sincere about it.

“I hope the cricketing activities in the country will begin in full scale very soon. The board is taking all the steps to resume it,” Miraz said in a video message sent by the BCB.

Cricketing activities in the country had already begun in limited scale with the individual training of the players, arranged by the BCB after four-month hiatus. Beforehand the country’s most coveted tournament Dhaka Premier League (DPL) saw a postponed due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in mid-March.

Bangladesh also experienced a lot of International series being postponed due to the deadly virus, leaving the cricketers stranded at home. However as the situation looked to ease to some extent, the local cricketers wants the DPL to start very soon, considering the league is earning source for most of them.

At the same time, the players like Mushfiqur Rahim and others requested BCB to give them an opportunity of outdoor training.

The BCB agreed and arranged individual training for the players in accordance with the standard health protocol, opening up a possibility to begin cricketing activities in full scale.

A total of 11 cricketers so far took the opportunity to train individually in four different venues, arranged by BCB and a number of cricketers also showed their interest to begin training after the break of Eid-ul-Adha.

Miraz who is one of the 11 cricketers, currently training at Sheikh Abu Naser stadium in Khulna, said, he is happy to train back to the cricket ground again.

“I have got the opportunity to train at the ground after a long time,” he said. “Hope the tough situation will be ended very soon. At this moment, I am working on my fitness. For the last three months, I was at home and did my gym but training at outdoor is completely different. I have tried my best to keep me fit and now is doing running, gym at ground. Hope to be back to cricket as early as possible.”BSS
