Missing Bangladeshi student found

The family of a Bangladeshi student at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) who went missing six days ago says he has contacted them from India’s Himachal Pradesh.Aunik Arnold Dhali’s sister Monica Dhali and aunt Sinthia D Rosario have confirmed that he was safe and in Manali.In a post on Facebook at around 7pm Monday, Monica wrote, “Thanks to everybody’s prayers and help. I found my brother!!!!!”In a second post an hour later, she added, “My brother is safe and thank you all!”At around 8pm, Sinthia D Rosario told bdnews24.com over phone: “Aunik sent an SMS to us only five minutes ago saying he was okay.”She said Aunik, who hails from Chittagong, was in Manali, more than 500 kilometres away from New Delhi.Asked whether he was kidnapped, she said, “No. We didn’t feel anything like it. In the SMS he said he was safe.”Aunik’s friend Sumeet Samos told bdnews24.com’s New Delhi Correspondent, “We came to know from a Facebook message that Aunik is safe in Manali. We are trying to contact his sister and other family members.”However, whether he himself or someone else sent the messages is not clear.

A 5th semester student of International Relations at JNU, Aunik went missing around noon on Dec 15 from Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), according to a case registered at the airport police station.Investigators said Aunik’s call records showed that he had returned to JNU from the airport and went missing from somewhere near the campus.Aunik did his schooling in Darjeeling in India’s eastern state of West Bengal.A massive social media campaign has been on for the past few days to ascertain Aunik’s whereabouts.Sumeet Samos earlier said they had also approached the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi to find Aunik.
