Dhaka- In the last three years, Bangladesh played 21 Tests but in the next three years, they will play 32 Tests, including those of the World Test Championship and this has made left-handed top order-batsman Mominul Haque, who is often tagged as the Test specialist, happy.
Bangladesh are currently gearing up for their new home season which will begin with the one-off Test against Afghanistan in the first week of September. New head coach Russell Domingo has already started his job to prepare the team.
“It’s good that we’ll play a lot of Tests in the coming days. Our Test championship will start with the series against India in November. Before that, we’ll face Afghanistan in a one-off Test which will help us get prepared to face India because of the strong spin attack of Afghans,” Mominul told the media on Thursday.
“We have to be strong both in mental and physical aspects (to play many Tests). I think it won’t create any problem for me as I’ve played a few matches in a span of a short time in India (for BCB XI recently). So, I’m habituated with this). And the thing is that if you play more matches, it becomes easier to play more,” the southpaw added.
Mominul believes with the Test championship, Bangladesh will get more chances to play Tests and it will surely make them stronger in the most prestigious format of the game. Bangladesh developed massively in ODI cricket, but in that sense, they are yet to taste the same success in Tests.
“It’s good for our country that we’ll get chances to play more Tests and it’ll change us in this format. It’s really good for Bangladesh cricket. From a personal point of view, I’m glad that we’ll play more Tests,” he further said.
Mominul played 35 Tests and scored 2558 runs at an average of 41.93 with eight hundreds and 12 fifties. However, he failed to flare up in ODIs as he played 28 matches and scored only 557 at an average of 22.28.
The left-hander believers if he can manage his good record in Test cricket and come up with a more effective effort in the upcoming edition of BPL, it might earn him another chance in the white-ball cricket.
“I am not going to be tagged as a Test player for all of my life. I’ve been trying to improve myself as a cricketer. I always practise more to be perfect in my job. If I can maintain a good average in Tests and play well in BPL, I might get another chance to resume my white-ball cricket in the international arena,” Mominul concluded.
