More budgetary allocation in education sector stressed

Speakers in a function here on Tuesday stressed the need for more budgetary allocation in education sector to ensure education for all by 2015.
“As it was not possible to push forward the country towards desired goal without education, the government should allocate minimum 20 per cent fund of the total budget and expense it for education sector”, they said.They made the comments while addressing an inaugural session of a day long divisional level view exchange meeting on Education for All by 2015 and National Budget: Running Trend and Our Expectation at a local NGO of the town here in the morning.Udayan Swabolambee Sangstha (USS) and Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE) jointly organized the function with the financial support of UKAID, European Union and Civil Society Education Fund.Deputy Commissioner (DC) M Ehsan-e-Elahi addressed the ceremony as the chief guest and district primary education officer AKM Amirul Islam and superintendent of Primary Teachers Training Institute Samsia Akter were present as the special guests.The keynote papers on EFA 2015 Report: A Civil Society Perspective Bangladesh and EFA and National Budget: Running Trend and Our Expectations were presented by executive director of Gana Shastha Kendra Golam Mostafa Dulal and programme manager of CAMPE Dr Mostafizur Rahman respectively.The function was also addressed, among others, by executive chief of Gana Unnayan Kendra M Abdus Salam, executive director of USS Shahadat Hossain Mondal, vice principal of Sadullapur Degree College Zahurul Qaiyum, director of Amar Bangla Bidyapid Nurul Alam, social worker Saiful Alam Saka, and journalist Sarker M Shahiduzzaman.The speakers also underlined the need to allocate more funds in next budgets for the research and the training of the teachers to ensure quality teaching to the students, they said.DC M Ehsan-e-Elahi in his speeches sought cooperation of all to make the education programmes of the government a grand success to help build an enlightened nation.About 50 participants coming from different organizations of Rangpur division took part in the workshop. -BSS, Gaibandha
