Mumbai Chess: Bangladeshi GM Zia shares 3rd slot

Dhaka- Bangladesh Grand Master Ziaur Rahman shared the 3rd slot in the 11th Mumbai Mayor’s Cup International Chess Tournament with 17 other players securing 5.5 points after the 8th round matches in the Indian city of Mumbai on Friday.After the 8th round matches, IM Abu Sufian Shakil and CM Chanchal Kumer Ghosh earned 5 points each, CM Sohel Chowdhury earned 4.5 points, Jamal Uddin, Anisuzzaman Jewel and Shahnaz Mohammad Faruque earned 4 points each, Abzid Rahman, Avik Sarker, Arifuzzaman Arif and Mezanur Rahman earned 3 points each.

Mohammad Hasan, Sazzad Kishor and Shahidul Islam secured 2.5 points each, Tipu Sultan, Protiva Talukder, Firoz Kabir and Kazi Zarin Tasnim earned 2 points each, Tahsin Tajwar Zia, Kazi Mahbub Afzal, Akmal Hossain Khan, Sohel Rana Pritom and Wadifa Ahmed 1.5 bagged points each while Jodunath Biswas earned 1 point.

In the 8th round matches on Friday, GM Zia beat FM Sauravh Kehhrdeker of India, IM Shakil lost to GM Neverov Valeriy of Ukraine, CM Chanchal beat Arya Nirag Shah of India, CM Sohel drew with Tanmay Jain of India, Jewel lost to Pranavananda of India, Shahnaz drew with Saranya J of India, Mezan lost to Shantharam of India, Avik lost to Gokhle Rishabh of India, Jamal beat Vijin Babu of India, Abzid lost to Kanishk of India, Sazzad lost to Harsh Suresh of India, Shahid lost Aagam Aditya of India, Tipu lost to Aryan Ranjan of India, Arif beat Zarin, Protiva lost to Kiyarra Sunil Khaturia of India, Hasan beat Akmal, Walijah beat Afzal, Firoz beat Jodunath and Wadfifah drew with Pritom.UNB
