Mumbai Chess: GM Ziaur Rahman shares top slot with 5 others

Dhaka – Bangladeshi Grand Master Ziaur Rahman of Saif Sporting Club is tied for the top spot with five other players following the 4th round matches on Wednesday in the IIFL Wealth 4th Mumbai International Grandmaster Chess Tournament.
They all secured 3.5 points.FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman of SAIF Sporting Club shared the 2nd position with 18 other players collecting three points each while FM Mehdi Hasan Parag of Golden Sporting Club earned 1.5 points.

CM Subrota Biswas of Uttara Central Chess Club, Md. Abzid Rahman of Janata Bank Officer Welfare Society, CM Sohel Chowdhury of Titas Club and Ali Ahsan Jewel bagged one point each.Nayem Haque of Mir Chess Club, Sazzad Kishore of Dhaka Knight’s Club bagged 0.5 points each.

In the 4th round matches on Wednesday, GM Zia beat Saurabh Anand of India, FM Fahad drew with GM Saptarshi Roy of India, FM Parag lost to GM Ankit Rajpara of India, CM Subrota beat Regmi Shikhar of Nepal, Abzid lost to Phadke Sohan of India, CM Sohel lost to WIM Varga Klara of Hungary, Nayem lost to Surendran of India, Sazzad lost to Soham Datar of India while Jewel got a bye.

Meanwhile, in the Junior (under-13) event of the meet on Thursday, Tahsin Tajwar Zia of Golden Sporting Club earned 4 points after the 5th round matches to share the 3rd position with 23 other players.

Marzouq Chowdhury of Elegant International Chess Academy earned 3 points, Warsia Khusbu and Zzif Khandkar of Elegant International Chess Academy earned 2 points each while Syed Ridwan of Elegant International Chess Academy earned 1.5 points after the 5th round.

In the junior event of the 5th round on Thursday, Tahsin beat K Ratnapriya of India, Marzouq drew with Makwana Devam of India, Zaif beat Gauri Saraswat of India, Khusbu beat Kapur Krish of India and Ridwan beat Somani Akshay of India.UNB
