Mumbai Mayor Chess: Shakil finishes 32nd, Zia 34th

Dhaka – Bangladeshi International Master Abu Sufian Shakil finished 32nd and Grand Master Ziaur Rahman became 34thin the 11th Mumbai Mayor’s Cup International Chess Tournament securing 6.5 points after the 10th and last round matches held in the Indian city Mumbai on Sunday.CM Chanchal Kumer Ghoshwas placed 54thcollecting 6 points, CM Sohel Chowdhury became 73rd, Mohammad Jamal Uddinfinished 90th with 5.5 points each. Anisuzzaman Jewel became 124th with 4.5 points, Shahnaz Mohammad Faruque became 144th, Mezanur Rahman became 148th and Avik Sarker became 152nd with 4 points each.

In the 10thand last round matches Sunday afternoon, IM Shakil beat CM Sohel, GM Zia drew with Raja Rithvik of India, CM Chanchal defeated Navalgund Niranjan of India while Jamal beat Gokhale Rishab Chandrashekhar of India.

Grand Master Amonatov Farrukh of Tajikistan emerged champion while GM Pruijssers Reoland Netherlands became runner-up with 8.5 points each.

A total of 2016 players from 18 countries including 21 grandmasters, 2 women grandmasters, 19 international masters and 7 women international masters participated in the event.UNB
