National cricketers to stay quarantine before their Covid-19 test

DHAKA —The national cricketers, who were called up in the preliminary squad for the home series against West Indies will stay quarantine before undergoing a Covid-19 test.

They will be taken to a hotel tomorrow for quarantine before they appear for the Coronavirus test on January 7 and 9, said a high official of the medical department of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

“The players who are called up for the series against West Indies will be taken to quarantine tomorrow. They will undergo Covid-19 test on January 7 and 9,” BCB chief physician Dr. Debashis Chowdhury said here today.

The BCB had already started the coronavirus test of the support staff who will be involved in this series. Gradually the liaison team of West Indies, hotel boys, team boys, team management and players of the both teams will be tested.

“The Covid-19 test of the people involved in the series had already started from today. The sample of the support staff were collected,” Dr. Chowdhury informed.

The Caribbean side is due to arrive in Bangladesh on January 10 for two Tests and three-match ODI series.

The West Indies will start their month-long tour in Bangladesh with a one-day practice game at BKSP on January 18.

The first ODI of the three-match series will be played on January 20 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The second ODI is on January 22 at the same venue. The third and final ODI of the series will be held on January 25 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

Before the two-match Test series, the tourists will play a four-day warm-up match which is at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram on January 28-31. The first Test of the series will be held at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram on February 3-7. The second and the second final Test is on February 11-15 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.BSS
