National Women’s Handball: Six matches decided on opening day

Dhaka – The Exim Bank 29th National Women’s Handball Championship began at the Shaheed Capt (retd) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium here on Tuesday with six matches decided on the opening day.The four-day meet will, however, be inaugurated at 11am on Wednesday by newly appointed State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell. Managing Director of the meet’s sponsor Exim Bank Dr Mohammad Haider Ali is expected to be a special guest on the occasion.

In the day’s matches, Dhaka DSA beat Bandarban DSA by 18-7 goals, Dinajpur DSA outplayed Feni DSA by 13-3 goals, Bangladesh Police crushed Gopalganj DSA by 24-4 goals, Jamalpur DSA trounced Faridpur DSA 33-5 goals in the morning session.

In the afternoon session, Bandarban DSA beat Narail DSA by 21-4 goals while Naogaon DSA outplayed Feni DSA by 28-4 goals.

Fourteen teams — BJMC, Bangladesh Ansar, Bangladesh Police, Feni, Jamalpur, Naogaon, Narail, Dhaka, Panchagarh, Gopalganj, Faridpur, Dinajpur, Kushtia and Bandarban districts — are taking part in the competition. UNB
