Need to bowl intelligently to get wickets in Chattogram: Rubel

Dhaka – Bowlers are now going through their most challenging part of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in Chattogram as the wicket of the venue, Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, is most gracious for the batsmen.

However, the right-arm pacer of former BPL champions Dhaka Dynamites, Rubel Hossain, believes the bowlers could be successful in Chattogram if they can bowl in an intelligent manner.

“The wicket of Chattogram is traditionally helpful for the batsmen. It’s really challenging for the bowlers to do well in this kind of wicket. Despite the batting-friendly nature of the wicket, bowlers could be successful if they bowl reading the minds of the batsmen,” Rubel Hossain said on Sunday during a practice session at the venue.

“I think every batsman wants to play big shots in this type of wicket. So, a bowler should play keeping this thing in mind. If they can deliver in a creative manner, they could be successful,” Rubel further said.

The Dhaka Dynamites, now in Chattogram, have played eight BPL matches so far and won five of them.

In their next match on Monday at 6:30pm, they will face defending champions Rangpur Riders, who won five matches out of nine. In their first meeting against Riders, Dynamites won by two wickets.

Rangpur Riders posted 239 runs against Chittagong Vikings on Friday, the highest-ever team total in the history of BPL.

Alex Hales and Rilee Rossouw hit centuries for the Riders in that match which was the first instance of two batsmen hitting tons in the same innings of a BPL match.

They are also eager to take revenge of their defeat against the Dynamites.
However, Rubel Hossain said he is not thinking about the next match this way. “I’m not feeling any extra challenge. At the same time, every match is challenging for us. My main goal is to bowl as per the team plan and I always try to do that. I believe getting a wicket sometimes depends on the fate also. What I can ensure is playing my best,” the right-arm national pacer further said.

Rubel Hossain took 10 wickets in eight matches that he played so far with the best figure of three wickets for just seven runs. After Shakib Al Hasan, who has taken 17 wickets, Rubel was the best bowler of the Dynamites so far.

The 29-year-old pacer said he is happy with the way he is playing in the BPL and he is upbeat to do well in the upcoming tour of the national team in New Zealand as well.

He said: “It’s really nice that I’ve been named in the national squad that will tour New Zealand in February. I’m confident to play well on the tour and I have the experience to play in New Zealand.”UNB
