No Bangladeshi migrated to India after independence: BNP

Dhaka, Sept 11- The opposition BNP on Wednesday made it clear that no Bangladeshi intruded into India after the War of Liberation in 1971.BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the comment against the backdrop of Indian media reports that those were dropped from Assam’s National Register of Citizens were Bangladeshis.
He was addressing a human chain programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club demanding the release of party chairperson Khaleda Zia who is serving a 17-year term in two graft cases.
“We are now facing threats from our neighbouring country’s Assam that Bangladeshis had intruded there and they would send them back. We clearly want to say no Bangladeshi intruded into India after the War of Independence” he said adding, “A deep rooted conspiracy is being hatched to endanger Bangladesh.”
A section of Indian media published such reports quoting the ruling Bharatia Janata Party leaders in the Indian state of Assam and elsewhere after Assam published its NRC on August 31, 2019, dropping about 19 lakh people, most of which are Bangla speaking ones.
Earlier, the ruling Awami League leader and Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal also made similar comments that no Bangladeshi went to India illegally after the country’s independence.
The BNP secretary general criticised the government for its failure to send Rohingya people to their country even in two years.
“They (government) are unable to solve Rohingya crisis as they have no courage or capability. They are failing to solve Rohingya crisis due to their submissive foreign policy,” he alleged.
Mirza Alamgir expressed the vow to wage a greater movement against government to free party chairperson Khaleda Zia and restore the democracy and people’s rights.
He called upon the people irrespective of political affiliation to get united to protect their rights and uphold the spirit of the war of liberation.
“We urge you people to get united to restore your rights, voting rights, freedom of expression and build resistance against those are snatching our all rights…We will be able to defeat this government, Insha Allah by waging greater movement,” he said.
Demanding the release of former premier, Mirza Alamgir claimed that Khaleda is very sick and her sugar level, arthritis complication and neck pain are increased.
“She (Khaleda) cannot walk without assistance, cannot move and she is to move by using wheel chair. We demand her release immediately and provide proper treatment,” he added.
At a stage, he himself chanted slogan saying “Ziar Soinik, Ek Hou, Mukti Chai, Mukti Chai (Zia’s soldier, get united, want her (Khaleda’s) release.
He accused the government of confining the BNP chairperson to introduce one-party rule by controlling all the state machineries including the judiciary.
As part of two-day central programme, the BNP organized the human chain at the footpath in front of Jatiya Press Club for one hour starting at 11:00am.
The BNP staged several programmes in front of the Press Club after she was sent to jail by a special court on February 8 last year..
With staging the human chain, the traffic movement in front of Jatiya Press Club and its adjacent areas was hampered pushing the passengers towards sufferings.
Speaking the human chain, BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed claimed that Khaleda has been confined in prison implicating her in a ‘false case and she cannot get bail due to interference of the government to courts.
He expressed his determination to continue legal battle to free Khaleda and put emphasis the need to wage tougher street agitation to ensure her release.
BNP leaders- Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Nazrul Islam Khan, Prof Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, Ahmed Azam Khan, Joynul Abedin Faruk, Abul Khair Bhuiyan, Habibur Rahman Habib, Mojibur Rahman Sarwar, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Khairul Kabir Khokan and Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, among other, also spoke on the occasion.
Additional law enforcers including plain clothes member of the law enforcing agencies were deployed in front the Jatiya Press Club and its adjacent areas to maintain the law and order during the opposition party’s programme.
As part of the scheduled programme, the BNP would form human chain programmes across the country today (Thursday) demanding the release of former premier, who has now been receiving treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University since April 1 last. – Staff Reporter
