No conflict in JP – GM Quader after Raushan’s alleged move

Dhaka, July 23 (UNB) – Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader on Tuesday claimed that there is no conflict in their party over its leadership.

He came up with the remark while talking to reporters at his Banani office as a press release was issued in the official letterhead of deputy leader of the opposition in parliament Raushon Ershad disapproving him as Jatiya Party chairman.

GM Quader said, “The press release was a handwritten and raw one…it’s unacceptable and unbelievable. Ershad was like a father in our family. Similarly, Raushon Ershad is like a mother to us.”

Quader also said their party is carrying out political activities in a united manner. “There’s no division in Jatiya Party. There’s no conflict over leadership either.”

He also said he has been working as the party chairman as per the directive of its late chairman and his brother HM Ershad.

Quader also claimed that their party leaders declared him as its chairman following the party charter.

He, however, said if there is any problem they will resolve it through discussions.

On July 18, Jatiya Party secretary general Moshiur Rahman Ranga formally announced GM Quader as its chairman.

Before his death, HM Ershad made his younger brother GM Quader the party chairman in his absence on April 6.

However, the press release issued in the name of party senior cochairman Raushon said, “I came to know from different newspapers that Jatiya Party’s acting chairman GM Quader has been announced as its chairman. But such decision was not taken through discussions at the proper party forum.”

“I hope the current acting chairman of the party would discharge his duty until its next chairman is appointed as per the party constitution. I hope all the party leaders and activists will be respectful of its charter,” it added.

The press release also mentioned the names of 10 party leaders, including that of Ershad, who viewed the similar opinion about the party’s chairman post.

The nine other leaders are Jatiya party presidium members Anisul Islam Mahmud, Fakhrul Imam, Salim Osman, Narsin Jahan Ratna, Prof Masuda M Rashid Chowdhury, Mir Abdus Sabur Asud and Delwar Hossain and two party MPs Raushan Ara Mannan and Leakoat Hossain Khoka.

Raushon could not be reached over phone to verify the authenticity of the press release.

Contacted, Masuda Chowdhury said she has no idea about the press release. “My name was used in the press release without informing me.”

However, Fakhrul Imam claimed Raushon issued the press release.
