No JSC, JDC exam this year: Ministry

The government has decided not to hold Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations this year.

MA Khair, public relations officer of the Ministry of Education, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Thursday. The move follows the government’s decision to extend the shutdown of schools and educational institutions across the country to October 3 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

On August 20, the education ministry had sent a proposal summary to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to take final decision on JSC and JDC examinations. They decided to scrap JSC and JDC examinations after reviewing the proposal, the public relations officer said.

The Ministry of Education was forming a recovery plan for the country’s education system, such as automatically promoting students to the next class without holding exams, or extending the duration of the academic session to complete syllabus, among others.

National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), the Directorate of Primary Education (DPE), National Academy of Primary Education (NAPE), and Bangladesh Examination Development Unit (BEDU) have been jointly working towards it.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education said the Primary Education Completion (PEC) examination will not be held this year.Educational institutions have been shut since mid-March across the country over the coronavirus pandemic.
