Dhaka – NoFel Sporting Club, which relegated from the 13-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football recently, emerged surprise champions in the Walton Under-18 Football Tournament beating their superior rivals Saif Sporting Club by 1-0 goal in the final at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Shipahi Mohammad Mustafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur on Wednesday.
Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Football Federation Abdus Salam Murshedy MP was the chief guest in the day’s final and distributed the trophies among the winners.
After a barren first half, Arman Hossain Abir scored the match winning goal for Noakhali, Feni and Luxmipur team, NoFel SC, in the 81st minute when Saif SC defender failed to clear an attempt of Pias (1-0).
NoFel SC, which finished 12th in the recently concluded 13-team BPL and relegated to lower division – Bangladesh Championship League, smartly booked a seat for the final shocking league champion Bashundhara Kings by 4-3 goals in tie breaker in the 2nd semifinal.
While Group D Champions Saif SC reached the final eliminating Dhaka Abahani Limited by 5-0 goals in the 2nd semifinal
In their previous meet, Saif Sporting Club played 1-1 draw against NoFeL Sporting Club in the opening match of the Walton Under-18 Football Tournament on September 13.A total of twelve Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) clubs – split into four groups – participated in the tournament.UNB
