Noted singer Mohammad Ali Siddiqui passes away

Veteran singer Mohammad Ali Siddiqui died of old-age complications at his residence in the city this morning. He was 70.
He died at around 9.30 am at his Mirpur section-2 (near panir tanki) residence, said Suraya Siddiqui, widow of the deceased.
He was buried at Mirpur Intellectual Graveyard after Namaz-e-Janaza at Masjidul Fitr at Mirpur-2 after Asar prayers.He left behind his wife, three daughters and a host of relatives, fans and well wishers to mourn his death.
Siddiqui sang around 3,500 songs and he had recorded songs for 206 popular Bangla films during the ’60s and ’70s. He performed both on BTV and Bangladesh Betar (radio) for many years.
‘Bashi Baje Oi Dure’,’Heshe Khele Jibonta Jodi Choley Jai’, ‘Hoi Hoi Rongila Rongila re’, Shono go Ruposhi Lalana’, Oi Dur Durante’ were his popular Bangla songs.
The artiste worked for Bangladesh Betar as a music director for several years.
Siddiqui was born on February 2, 1944 at Netrokona district. He got married Suraya Siddiqui in March 28, 1973.
He was awarded with many prizes including the National Award, Dinesh Padak, Bandhan Lifetime Award and Shilpakala Academy Award.
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu today expressed deep shock at the death of noted singer Mohammad Ali Siddiqui.
“The country has lost a genius and talented artiste in his death”, the minister said.
The Information Minister also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family. – BSS
