Obituary: Educator Shamsuzzaman passes away

Noted educator Mr. Shamsuzzaman passed away peacefully on Saturday (14 September 2013) night in Dhaka. He was 71.Mr. Zaman, a retired government officer, died of complicacy from breathing problem, diabetic and various old age ailments.
Mr. Zaman, popularly known as Zaman Sir, left behind a daughter, a son, three sisters, a brother and a host of relatives, friends and students. His students included eminent politicians, parliamentarians, journalists, industrialists, entrepreneurs, lawyers and personalities.
He was involved in social works, including voluntary teaching, in Banani since 1964.
Mr. Zaman, eldest son of late Wajed Ali Biswas, was born in Chuadanga in 1942. He obtained his graduation from Dhaka College in the 1960s and started his career as a teacher. He later joined the erstwhile Pakistan Central Government service and retired as a senior officer of the Bangladesh Government Printing Press in 1999.
He was buried at Banani Graveyard on Sunday afternoon following his Namaz-e-Janaza at the Banani Central Mosque.
Expatriate journalist, broadcaster and political analyst Shaikat Rushdee is his nephew.
