Olympics Youth Hockey: Mixed day for Bangladesh

Dhaka – Bangladesh’s Youth Hockey team had mixed fortunes Thursday, in the qualifying round of the Youth Olympic Games Hockey in Thailand on Thursday.Bangladesh, which made a flying start in the meet outplaying Singapore by 10-4 goals on Wednesday, had two games scheduled today, and piled up their 2nd consecutive victory in great style, crushing Cambodia 20-0 first thing in the morning.

Shafiul scored 7, Rakibul 4, Shawon 3, Abed and Prince 2 each, and 1 for Mehedi and Mohsin.However the team’s winning spree was duly brought to an end by rising hockey nation Malaysia in the afternoon fixture, which ended 7-4 to the south-east Asian nation.
The result leaves Bangladesh in third place in Pool B, behind Malaysia (3 played, 3 won) and Pakistan (2 wins and 1 draw).

Only the top 2 in each group qualify for the next phase.On Friday, Bangladesh will play their last fixtures of the group phase against Chinese Taipei at 11 am and Pakistan at 6 pm (BdST).

Meanwhile, Bangladesh veteran hockey team will fly for Kolkata on Saturday (Apr 28) to play an exhibition match with CCFC of Kolkata on Sunday. The team will return home on May 1.UNB
