One awarded death, 3 life-term in a murder case

A Dhaka court on Sunday sentenced a man to death while 3 others were imprisoned for life-term in a murder case filed for the murder of Assistant Manager Jahangir Alam of the advertisement section of the vernacular daily the Banikbarta of Dhaka.
Judge Tehsin Iftekhar of the Seventh Additional Sessions Judge Court Dhaka handed down the verdict on Sunday. Death sentenced convict is victim Jahangir’s distant cousin HM Faisal while the life-term imprisoned convicts are: Najmul Hasan alias Rakib, Raihan Hasan Sarwar and Fahim Hasan Khan.
Death sentenced convict Faisal is on the run while the other three convicts were brought to court on the occasion of pronouncing the verdict of the case.
The case docket says that on September 15, 2015, Jahangir went out of his residence and a short while his mobile telephone was found closed. The victim’s relations talked with Faisal a number of times about the victim and filed a GD with Tejgaon Model Police Station.
However, Faisal did not tell anything about Jahangir as if he knew nothing about Jahangir. Later, the victim’s body was recovered from a suitcase at 211/1-A, Namapara of Khilkhet area.
Later, on September 18, Jahangir’s wife Roksana Pervin filed a murder case with Khilkhet Police Station of the city. IO of the case submitted the charge-sheet of the case to the court on February 22, 2016. On May 25 of the year, the court framed charges against the accused and the trial began.
During the trial, 12 prosecution witnesses testified in the case.
