Onion price shows downtrend: TCB

The price of onion, ginger, green chilli and fishes is still high in the city’s kitchen markets despite abundance of supply. Of them, ginger was selling for Tk180 per kg on Friday, up by Tk 10 from last week, onion at Tk 60 to Tk 70 and green chilli at Tk 70 to Tk 80 only.
As for the fish, barbal and scorpion fish were selling at Tk 700 to Tk 800 per kilo each, ruhit at Tk 250 to 300, carp at Tk 300 to Tk 450, shrimp and lobster at Tk 400 to Tk 600, pangas at Tk 150-170, tilapia at Tk 150 to Tk 180, mola for Tk 220, climbing fish at Tk 250 to 600, lata at Tk 200 to Tk 240, tatkini at Tk 200 to Tk 220, sheat fish at Tk 300 to Tk 500, small fry fish for  Tk 250 and butter fish at Tk 660 to Tk 700. The price of hilsha shows downward trend. On Friday, it was selling at Tk 650 to Tk 700 per kilo at South Goran under Khilgaon thana.
Beef was selling at Tk 290- Tk 300 per kg, red meat at Tk 400-450 and  Broiler chicken at  Tk 160-170 per kg. But local fowl is costly, selling at Tk 600 per kilo.
Of the kitchen vegetables, potato was selling at Tk. 18 to Tk 20 per kilogram, green papaya at Tk 20 to Tk 25, brinjal at Tk 40-60, arum at Tk 20-25, snake gourd at Tk 35-40, bitter gourd at Tk 45 to Tk 60, green bean at Tk 50 to Tk 50, luffa at Tk 40 to Tk 50, okra at Tk 30 to Tk 35, cucumber at Tk 25 to Tk 30, cauliflower at Tk 30 to Tk 40, cabbage at Tk 30 to Tk 35, carrot at Tk 70 to Tk 80, radish at Tk 30 to Tk 35, parbal at Tk 30 to Tk 35, teasel gourd at Tk 40 to Tk 45, zucchini at Tk 25 to Tk 30 and coriander leaves at Tk 300 to Tk 350 per kg. An medium size ash gourd and pumpkin were selling at Tk 35 to Tk 40 and Tk 30 to Tk 50 per piece respectively.
Vegetables are not sold by kilo, but by bundle from Tk 10 t0 20.
Different varieties of red lentil ranged between Tk 80 and Tk 130 per kg and  gram between Tk 60 to Tk 70 on Friday, unchanged from past week. Soybean oil in can was selling at Tk 130-132 while different brands of five litre canned soybean oil were selling at Tk 650-660 on Friday.
On the other hand, loose soybean was selling at Tk 107-109 per liter, palm and super palm at Tk 72-73 and Tk 75-77 per litre respectively. A dozen of eggs were sold at Tk 102-105 marking a 13.79 per cent hike in a month. Loose sugar was sold at Tk 48- Tk 50 per kg and in packet at Tk 55 only.
However, rice maintained the earlier high trend. minicate rice was selling at Tk 45- Tk 47 per kg , nazirshail  varieties at Tk 48- Tk 53 per kg, Lata variety at Tk 35-36 per kg and  coarse variety at Tk 34-35. A packet of coarse flour (containing two kgs) was sold at Tk 75-76 on Friday, unchanged from last week. – Staff Writer
