A total of 22,81,396 babies will be administered two drops of oral polio vaccine in all
the eight districts under Rangpur division in the first round of 2Ist NID programme
tomorrow.
Another 5-day house to house searching programme will also be conducted from
December 22 to December 26 to bring the babies, who will remain left out, under the
NID programme.
Besides, as many as 58,04,180 babies aged from 9 months to 15 years will be
administered Measles and Rubella (MR) vaccines from January 25 to February 13, 2014.
The MR vaccine will be pushed through syringe into the body.
This was disclosed at a press conference organized by programme manager, EPI,
Directorate General of Health Services and health department here at a conference room
of civil surgeon (CS) office through multi media projector by district maternal, child and
immunization officer Dr. M Lutfar Rahman.
The power point presentation also disclosed that a total of 62,838 health and family
planning personnel including volunteers will be engaged in 14,538 centres including NID
ones throughout the division to make the NID a success.
With CS Dr. Ahad Ali in the chair, the press conference was also addressed, among
others, by resident medical officer Dr. ABM Abu Hanif, district EPI superintendent
M. Shajahan Ali, health education officer Abdul Hannan and journalist Sarker M.
Shahiduzzaman.
CS Dr. Ahad Ali in his speech said special initiatives have been taken to bring all the
children of char and remote areas of the upazila under this programme in cooperation
with some NGOs including BRAC and Friendship.
The CS also urged the journalists to create mass awareness among the people about the
2Ist NID and MR campaign through publishing objective reports to media to attain the
cherished goal.
More than 30 journalists of print and electronic media and news agency
attended the press conference.

National Immunization Day (NID) to be observed tomorrow to give vaccine to the
children to protect them from polio virus diseases.
The civil Surgeon in his speech said rubella is a mild disease in children, but if a pregnant
women gets infected in the first three months, it can have severe effects on the unborn
child.
He added that the effects of rubella on an unborn child could be deadly but once
immunized, the vaccine gives life long protection. He further said Measles Rubella
vaccine programme will be organized from January 25 to January 30 of 2014 applicable
for the children from 9 months to 15 years.
The MR vaccine will be pushed through syringe into the body. The civil surgeon said
both NID and MR campaign will be arranged at the permanent centres, out reach points
and educational institutions across the country.
