Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Tuesday said the government will take action through the Foreign Ministry against Pakistani female diplomat Farina Arshad if her alleged involvement in militancy is proved.“The names of many people can be surfaced. But, we don’t want to do anything in a rush unless we could be sure about that. If we get sure about it (Farina’s militancy involvement) we’ll take every necessary action against her through the Foreign Ministry,” he said.
The minister came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after attending a press conference on the occasion of the release of an anti-drug and anti-smoking film ‘Sarga Theke Narak’ at a city hotel.
MANAS, an organisation working for preventing drug abuse, has produced the film. The film is scheduled to be released on December 25. This will be the first film made to create awareness against illegal drugs.
According to different media reports, Farina, the Pakistan High Commission’s second secretary (political), has involvement with some militant groups, including Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
Asaduzzaman said Pakistan — from which Bangladesh had become Independent through a liberation war — has still continued various plots against the country. “They (Pakistan) have continued their various efforts to embarrass us.”
The minister said all militant groups, including JMB, are under the control of the government. “But, many vested local and international quarters are helping them. We’ve also established our control over them.”
He said the government will not give anyone any chance to make any evil effort to destroy the country sitting here. “It’s now evident that our detectives are very active.”
About the celebrations of the Victory Day, Kamal said there is no apprehension of any subversive act as the law enforcers and intelligence agencies are very alert in this regard. “If anyone tries to do anything, instant action will be taken in this regard.”
Earlier, addressing the function, the custodian of the Home Ministry said the government is committed to controlling illegal use of drugs as it wants the country to go forward.
“In spite of enforcing the existing tough law, we couldn’t fully contain the use of drugs for lack of mass awareness. If we fail to make our people aware against illegal drugs, we would be defeated in the war against drug,” he added.
Among others, Information Secretary Murtaza Ahmed, director general the Department of Narcotics Control Khandker Rakibur Rahman, psychiatrist Prof Dr Golam Rabbani, founder president of MANAS Dr Aurup Ratan Chowdhury, and film actress Nipun addressed the programme.
