Partial demolition of two tilted Ctg bldgs ordered

Chittagong –The Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) has instructed owners to partially demolish two of the nine buildings that got tilted during Wednesday’s earthquake in the port city.

A three-member probe body, formed by the CDA, came up with the directive while visiting the city’s Halishahar area, where the two tilted buildings are located, on Thursday afternoon.

The decision on the rest seven buildings will be taken after further inspections, said Shahinul Islam Khan, the CDA’s chief town planner and head of the probe committee, while talking to reporters.

A technical committee, comprising experts, will be formed, following recommendations of which the decision on the rest risky buildings will be taken at a meeting to be held on April 18, he added.

Replying to a question, Shahinul Islam Khan, said, “We’ve taken snaps of the tilted buildings and asked the owners of two of them to demolish the parts that have got leaned.”

On Wednesday night, 9 buildings have got tilted in different parts of the city following the 6.9 magnitude Myanmar earthquake that jolted Bangladesh as well.
