Peelkhana carnage masterminds not yet identified: BNP

Dhaka, Feb 25 – The BNP on Monday alleged that the masterminds behind the killings in the BDR mutiny yet to be identified as the investigative report carried out by the army was not made public.
“None of the investigations carried out over the BDR munity was made public. Particularly, the investigation report of the army is yet to disclose fully. Thus, question arises in the minds of people as to who were the masterminds and planners behind the tragic incident and it is not unearthed as to who were the beneficiaries of it,” said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He was talking to reporters after placing wreath at the monument built at Banani graveyards recalling the memory of those were killed in the BDR mutiny in 2009.
The BNP leader demanded carrying out a fair investigation into the barbaric incident.
“There was no fair investigation into the BDR munity. We along with the family members of the diseased and the nation think that there should a fair investigation into the incident,” he said.
Terming the 2009 BDR mutiny as a tainted day for the nation and said the attack was tantamount to carryout attack on the independence and sovereignty of the country.
WE believe that Bangladesh army is undoubtedly the symbol of independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh. Making them (army) weakened mentally was one of the main reasons behind carrying out the attack and killings, he added.
Mirza Alamgir said they want and demand the government to observe the day as national mourning day.
He expressed due respect to the martyred and sympathy to the bereaved family members and said they seek the peace of the departed souls of those were killed during the February 25-26 mutiny.
The BNP leader also called upon all to take an oath to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty.
A BNP team led by him went to the Banani graveyard at about 10:30 am and placed a wreath at the monument.
They stayed there for some time and offered fateha and munajat for the salvation of the departed souls of those were killed in the BDR mutiny.
Other members of the BNP team include Maj (Retd0 Hafizuddin Ahmed, Syed Muhammed Ibrahim, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Ruhul Alam Chowdhury, Fazle Elahi Akbar, Quamruzzaman, Shahjahan Miah Milon, Sarwar Hossain and Shairul Kabir Khan.
At least 74 people including 57 army officials with the director general of BDR were brutally killed during the BDR mutiny at Pilkhana in 2009. – Staff Reporter
