Petrol-pump owners call off strike

Petrol-pump and tank-lorry owners-workers called off their indefinite strike on Monday evening.After a close-door meeting at energy secretary, convener of the association Nzamul Haque and energy secretary to Prime Minister Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi made the disclosure.
On January 13, they called indefinite strike to press home their 13-point demand, including commission hike.
At present, the pump owners get 3.3 percent commission on petrol/octane sales and 2.45 percent on diesel/kerosene, incurring a loss, he told journalists.
The association demanded 4 percent commission on sales of both.
Nazmul said, “Of the demands, toll collection by police has reduced to some extent. But no step has yet been taken for constructing a separate terminal for tank lorries, renovation of old terminals and introducing insurance policy for the workers,” he said.
