Piracy of intellectual property has finished Film Industry: Kazi Akram

Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, president, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Sunday underlined the need for protecting intellectual property rights to ensure development of different sectors of the economy including the Film Industry by protecting it from the curse of piracy.
Addressing a function organised to mark the national intellectual property day 2014 by the Intellectual Property Association of Bangladesh (IPAB) in front of the ‘Aparajeya Bangla’ in premises of Dhaka University, to protect the film industry as the chief guest, he said that the film industry can make significant contribution to the national economy. But the this industry has been seriously affected by piracy of intellectual property for a long time and the problem has now reached its peak crippling the industry. Piracy is destroying the avenue for earnings a large number of people, he said.Film actor Ananta Jalil, brand ambassador of IPAB, actress Barsha, IPAB secretary general Azizur Rahman, FCS and other stakeholders were present at the function.
Ananta Jalil said fight against piracy of intellectual property is not enough, the people should be cautious against intellectual degeneration and abusive of literature.
IPAB secretary general Azizur Rahman called for collective efforts to stop ‘intellectual property rights terrorism’, save the film industry and help nation building.
The function attracted several hundred people. IPAB announced its plan to make a documentary film highlighting the problems facing the film industry and incorporating suggestions for a way to save it from destruction, says a press release.
