PM to open ‘Dhaka-OIC Youth Capital 2020’ virtually

Dhaka, July 11 – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the “Dhaka- OIC Youth Capital 2020” on July 27 connectivity youth from the OIC countries and beyond virtually. The theme of the Dhaka-OIC Youth Capital 2020 will be “Parity and Prosperity: For a Resilient Future.”
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel and State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam launched the official Facebook page and logo of the event jointly on Saturday through a virtual briefing.
Amid the COVID-19 new normal, the Dhaka OIC Youth Capital 2020 will be followed by the “Resilient Youth Leadership Summit” on 27-28 July 2020.
The launching ceremony of this grand event was originally scheduled to be held in Dhaka with the presence of state-level dignitaries, including Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and influential youths from all over the world on April 12.
Youth and Sports Secretary Md Akhter Hossain and Director General (International Organisations wing) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Khorshed Alam Khastagir, among others, were present.
International and national dignitaries including Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr Yousef Al-Othaimeen, 150 youth representatives from the OIC member states and beyond and 100 youth representatives from Bangladesh will join.
State Minister Alam highlighted the role of youth during COVID-19 and wished success of the event with effective participation of youth from various parts of the world.
State Minister for Youth said they had taken all the preparations to host the event in a big way but COVID-19 pandemic globally pushed them to cut it short to some extent.
He also mentioned that ten young persons will be honoured with Bangabandhu Global Youth Award during the event.
Dhaka was announced as the “OIC Youth Capital 2020” marking a significant recognition for the dynamic and determined leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her spirited Government in the youth sector, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Istanbul based Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF), an entity affiliated to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), made this declaration on December 25 2019.
The selection of Dhaka as the “OIC Youth Capital 2020” will play a significant role to reflect a positive brand image of Bangladesh globally, especially among the youth, says MoFA.
The convergence of the yearlong events with the grand celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s Birth Centenary has amplified its significance to a great extent.
This declaration of Dhaka as OIC Youth Capital 2020 is also a testimony of overwhelming vitality of the more than 53 million youths of Bangladesh, MoFA said.
Why Youth for Global Bangladesh?
The whole Dhaka-OIC Youth Capital 2020 programme will be promoted online and social media through a platform named Youth for Global Bangladesh (Y4GBD).
In order to celebrate Dhaka-OIC Youth Capital 2020 and to create a permanent platform to engage celebrated youths across the globe to promote the interest of Bangladesh, the Youth for Global Bangladesh (Y4GBD) is basically initiated.
This platform will be used as a tool for engaging youth for business, ideas & innovation, research& development as well as public diplomacy aiming at communicating influential youth leaders across the world to garner support for government’s strategic objectives at international platforms.
Y4GBD will also contribute to the culture of volunteerism and meaningful engagements with various youth centric institutions and organisations to devise strategic partnerships.
This platform will provide an opportunity to build a robust and broad-based database of youths – at national, regional and global levels. – UNB
