An extensive potato cultivation plan has been taken up in the district this year.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said they have brought 1,207 hectares of land in which, 292 hectares in Sadar upazila, 400 hectares in Shibganj upazila, 360 hectares in Gomostapur upazila, 65 hectares in Nachole upazila and 90 hectares in Bholahat upazila under potato cultivation target this year.They have also fixed up a target to produce 23,729 tonnes of potato in which, 5,740 tonnes in Sadar upazila, 7,864 tonnes in Shibganj upazila, 7,077 tonnes in Gomostapur upazila, 1,277 tonnes in Nachole upazila and 1,771 tonnes in Bholahat upazila.Meanwhile, farmers of all the five upazilas in the district have started sowing potato seeds in their fields, the sources added. -BSS, Chapainawabganj
