Power supply in southern districts back to normal

The distribution and supply of electricity in all the 21 districts of the country’s southwest and southeast regions resumed on Thursday night after the tropical storm Mahasen crossed the country’s territory. The power supply and distribution in the districts, including Barisal, Bhola, Barguna, Patuakhali and Cox’s Bazar, were suspended fearing destruction from the storm.
Power Development Board (PDB) director Saiful Alam on Friday said they have started distributing and supplying power as soon as Mahasen crossed the regions.
About the damage caused by the storm, he said no major breakdown or collapse of the transmission line was reported to them. “But in some areas, local distribution system suffered disruption when electricity poles collapsed by heavy wind,” he said, adding that those incidents mainly took place in the southwestern regions controlled by West Zone Power Distribution Company Ltd (WZPDC), a subsidiary of the PDB.
The PDB director said the engineers and workers of the WZPDC immediately rushed to the affected areas and repaired the distribution lines and restored electricity supply.
“Now, the power supply and distribution in all the 21 districts are normal.” UNB
