Practice match: Oman U-21 Hockey team to arrive next month

Dhaka – Bangladesh U-21 Hockey team will play some practice matches against Oman U-21 Hockey team in the 1st week of October as a part of their preparation for the upcoming Junior Asia Cup’2020 scheduled to be held in Dhaka from June 4 to 14.

A media official of Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) on Tuesday said that the federation has decided to arrange some practice matches between Bangladesh U-21 Hockey team and Oman U-21 Hockey team in the 1st week of October.

BHF has initially picked-up 35 players to form a Bangladesh U-21 team for the Junior Asia Cup Hockey’2020, which is also the qualifying meet for the Junior Hockey World Cup.

The players are now undergoing training session at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium under supervision of coach Mamun-ur-Rashid.

As a part of their preparations, Bangladeshi young hockey players were scheduled to tour India to play 16 practice matches against four Indian State teams this month, but the Indian authorities are yet to respond.

“The Indian hockey authority has not responded yet for the tour. So, the Hockey Federation has decided to host Oman in early October,” added the BHF official.

Earlier, the BHF has decided to host Junior Asia Cup Hockey on June and Asian Champions Trophy on October in 2020, marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.The BHF also decided to pay tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman naming the Junior Asian meet after his name.UNB
