Dhaka, March 20 – Imams of National Mosque Baitul Mokarram and other mosques on Friday offered special prayers during the Jumma prayers for all the people to stay safe from the coronavirus and discussed the coronavirus issue with utmost importance during ‘khutba’ (sermon). Before starting Jumma prayer, Imam of national mosque urged the people who come from abroad to stay at home. Those who were affected with normal fever should not come to the mosque, he said.
Like, the national mosque, Imam of many other mosques urged the people to abide by the state declaration to combat the coronavirus.
They also said people should better say prayers at home as the Prophet Mohammad (Pubh) himself had given the same direction during a crisis period during his life.
Referring Islamic rules and directives of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), they said that if there’s any chance for any sick person to get affected by or a risk of death or fear of the outbreak of any epidemic then people can avoid going to mosques.
They advised overseas-returnees, persons suffering from fever, cough and cold and coronavirus-like symptoms, to avoid going to mosques and public gatherings to curb the spread of the deadly virus.
Meanwhile, Islamic Foundation in a statement yesterday asked all Muslims to offer sunnah of the Juma prayers at their respective homes before going to the mosque to offer their two the Farz, in order to contain the spread of coronavirus.
Anis Mahmud, additional secretary of Islamic Foundation, in a statement, requested Muslims across the country to go to the mosque only to offer the Farz (mandatory) two rakahs of Jumma.
Besides, the government on Thursday instructed authorities concerned to suspend all political, cultural and religious gatherings.
Meanwhile, the mosque management committee of 201 Gambuj Mosque in Tangail’s Gopalpur Upazila suspended yesterday’s prayers (Jumma), according to a report. – Staff Reporter
