Dhaka – Defending champions Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club made a flying start in the Green Delta Insurance Metropolis Premier Division Hockey League outplaying Victoria Sporting Club by 4-0 goals in the opening match at the Maulana Bhashani National Stadium here on Saturday.Earlier, Secretary of the Ministry of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Shahidul Islam inaugurated the league in the afternoon.Hasin Arman Rup put Mariners ahead in the very 3rd minute from a field goal (1-0), penalty corner specialist Mamunur Rahman Chayan doubled the margin in the 20th minute from his favorite penalty corner (2-0).
Mainul Islam Kaushik scored the 3rd goal in the 30th minute from another corner (3-0) while Hasan Jubair Niloy sealed the fate of the scoring one more goal in the 68th minute, also from a penalty corner (4-0).
Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club defeated Victoria SC by 8-0 goals in the just concluded Club Cup Hockey, but this time they were failed to increase margin due confident goal keeping by Victoria custodian and as well as poor show of the Mariners forwards.
Three more matches will be held on Sunday. Sonali Bank will play Wari Club at 2:30 pm, Bangladesh Sporting will face Sadharan Bima KS at 4:30 pm while Dhaka Abahani Limited will encounter Bangladesh Police at 7 pm at the same venue.UNB
