Programmes taken to celebrate Bangla New Year in Gaibandha

The district administration has taken up elaborate programmes to celebrate Bangla New Year-1421 on April 14 in the district with much enthusiasm and traditional festivities.

A preparatory meeting was held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner (DC) on Thursday with DC Ehsan-e-Elahi in the chair.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Abu Bakar Siddique and additional Police Super Mosharaff Hossain addressed the function, among others.
After elaborate discussion in the meeting, a series of programmes were chalked out to welcome Pahela Baisakh, the first day of Bangla New Year-1421in a befitting manner.
The programmes include bringing out Mongal Shobhajatra in the morning, eating of pantha vaat with fried hilsha fish and chili, holding Baishakhi mela at Independence Square, discussion meeting and cultural function.
The local socio-cultural organizations and the artistes were also urged to render Jarri gaan, Sari gaan, Pala gaan, and folk songs, dramas and to recite poems during the 5-day long cultural function to be held on the premises of Independence Square to entertain the people.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Ehsan-e-Elahi said the celebration of Pahela Baishakh had become integral part of Bengalis culture and tradition and turned into a day of merriment.
He hope that Bangla New Year-1421 would bring continued peace, happiness and pleasures for all.
The DC in his concluding speech sought cooperation from all.
He also urged all to participate in all the programmes undertaken by the administration on the occasion of Bangla New Year-1421 to make the festival a grand success.
District and upazila level officials, leaders of different socio-cultural organizations, cultural personalities, social workers and political leaders including the journalists of print and electronic media were present in the meeting. –BSS, Gaibandha
