Push-button signal opened for road safety in Dhaka City

Dhaka, Oct 24 – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam on Thursday said escalators would be set up in the 15 foot-over bridges under the DNCC to encourage people to use these for road safety. The DNCC Mayor said this while addressing the inaugural programme of the first ever digital ‘push button signal’ at the Green Herald International School of Asad Gate in the city.
He said, “We all are the city dwellers. But how many of us are good citizens? We don’t need to be just citizens only rather want to be good citizens of the city.”
“We observed that the citizens of the capital are polluting the city. On the other hand, pedestrians are crossing road avoiding the beautiful foot-over bridges on the street risking themselves as well as the person who is driving on the road. We need to change this mindset, the DNCC Mayor added.
At the directive of the Prime Minister, the escalators (moving stairs) will be added to the existing fifteen foot-over bridges so that children, young and old men, will be able to cross all the way through the foot-over bridge using the escalators.
“We want the pedestrians to be encouraged to use foot-over bridge, the DNCC Mayor said”.
The DNCC set up escalators at Banani foot-over bridges in 2014 and at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in 2016.
“If we abide by the law, all of us will become good citizens,” said the mayor. Otherwise, we will become bad citizen”, he added.
Later, the Mayor formally inaugurated the “smart Push Button” signal system in front of Green Herald International School near Mohammadpur townhall at Asad Gate. – UNB
