Dhaka, July 25 (UNB) – BNP on Thursday urged the government to quit for its “utter failure” to tackle the worsening flood situation, prevent dengue and the growing incidents of killing and rape and social anarchy.
“Though the dengue situation has turned epidemic, there’s no effective step from the government to prevent it while flood-affected people are going through immense sufferings for lack of relief materials, medicines and treatment, “ said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Speaking at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he also said people are being raped, made disappeared and killed in incidents of crossfire due to the government’s failure. “And now there has been an outbreak of Aedes mosquito.”
“People don’t want to see them in power even for a moment. Those who can’t carry out a trivial task of killing mosquito shouldn’t be there in power anymore. Don’t punish people by hanging onto power by force,” the BNP leader said.
He went on saying, “When there’re screams of people all over the country for lack of steps against dengue, for the distribution of relief materials and the treatment of the flood victims, the Prime Minister is holidaying in London.”
Rizvi said the government is “reluctant” about tackling disasters like flood and dengue as it has no accountability and sense of responsibility for people since there is no democracy in the country.
He criticised the government for its “failure” to maintain law and order as the incidents of killing and rape marked a sharp rise in the country. “From three-year-old children to elderly women are falling victims to rape while a grand festival of killing in the name of mob beating is going on. We’re also seeing the beheaded bodies in newspapers. Law enforcement agencies have now become the private forces of Sheikh Hasina.”
The BNP leader said people are now scared of coming out of their homes as a serious anarchy has been prevailing in the country.
Accusing the government of keeping their party chairperson Khaleda Zia in jail in “false and fabricated” cases, Rizvi demanded her release from jail before the Eid-ul-Azha.
