Rajuk shuts down 6 establishments in city

As part of the government’s decision to dismantle commercial structures from residential areas in the city, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkah (Rajuk) launched a drive at Uttara on Monday.During the drive, five unauthorised restaurants and a residential hotel were shut down, said Rajuk assistant director (PR) Atikur Rahman.

He said a Rajuk team, led by its executive magistrate Khandaker Zakir Hossain, closed the establishments for illegally running commercial activities in the residential area.Besides, organisations concerned snapped the utility connections to the establishments, he said.The regulatory body of the capital will conduct drives against commercial establishments in Gulshan, Baridhara, Banani, Uttara and Dhanmondi areas for 21 working days by August, he said.Rajuk also sought additional members of law enforcers to assist the drives, Atikur said.Earlier on April 4, the Cabinet committee decided that unapproved institutions and commercial establishments must leave residential areas in Dhaka city within six months.On July 17, Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain said utility connections to unauthorised institutions and commercial establishments in residential areas of the capital would be snapped.
